Helidon Spa Pool 1920
The settlement history of Helidon Spa goes back to the 1800's. A natural lake fed by mineral springs and local rainfall was an important permanent source of water in the area for the local wildlife.
Around 1920, the land owners built a bluestone metal lined pool which was subsequently expanded after word got around that the mineral waters had healing properties.
Water being such a valuable resource, additional bores were frequently drilled to extract more. The attached newspaper photo shows a fresh bore in 1940 with Herman Goebel and Perce Clark.
These men helped build a dam right next to the natural lake separated by a wooden deck.
